We recently stayed at this luxurious 4-star hotel and were thoroughly impressed with our experience. The location was excellent, with a short walk to the main pedestrian street and the walk up to the University. Our room was spacious and offered a wonderful view of the river. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. Additionally, the hotel had a traditional Portuguese restaurant on the premises, which offered excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. We would highly recommend this place to our friends.
The architecture and certain woodwork of this venue showcased its faded old-world Portuguese elegance. However, this only added to the charm and unique character of the hotel.

Old fashioned style. Quirky.
Antique style good but seemed more that way because the building has been allowed to deteriorate over the years. Recommend as a brief quirky experience.

Good location, near historic center of Coimbra, easy access if you are driving. Cheap rooms... But be careful !!! Staff are as nice and friendly, able to communicate in English. Wi-Fi !!!! slow but included... We have second thoughts about cancelling our stay.. But we decided to stay and actually it was not that bad... Is a different experience and we can say: we survived the avenida Coimbra hotel.
Entering into the hotel Avenida is like stepping into the twilight zone...you go back in time 70 or 80 years...and might stay trapped there for days.. If you are ready for this experience: welcome...otherwise book a different hotel. Dusty and clumsy place..with a creppy feeling, plus dark hallways and staircase... Be ready to jump at the first encounter with an unknown creature.. For sure the next-door guest, who would be as surprised as you. Poor breakfastaand for your information.. They are still renovating... "Pardon our dust" Two stars is too much for this place.

Lovely heritage hotel on riverbank, excellent value, grand Indian restaurant, easy parking, charming old-world elegance, friendly staff.
Nothing, no complaints at all.

Nicely situated on the banks of the river montego. Free internet.
Room dirty, whole hotel had very funny stale smell. Pillows smelt very strongly of stale sweat. Sign that hotel was under refurbishment but there was no sign of this. Some rooms open directly into communal sitting room and are very noisy. Pictures are very misleading. Hotel is a euphenism, backpacker's hostel is more accurate. Star rating is not deserved.

The location of this hotel was really convenient. It was just a short walk from the train station and also close to the main pedestrian street. The view from my room was amazing, I could see the river from there. Another great thing about this hotel was the traditional Portuguese restaurant downstairs. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was friendly, making it the highlight of my stay.
The hotel had seen better days. The furniture and bathroom were quite old-fashioned and in need of renovation.

It was convenient for the town and station
Could do with a refurbishment and air conditioning, the hotel did not accept credit cards when I was there

The hotel's location on the banks of the river, close to the town centre and the main pedestrian street leading up to the University, was fantastic. We enjoyed beautiful river views from our spacious room. The staff was friendly and the hotel had a charming, old-world Portuguese elegance.
Nothing to complain about at all.

The hotel's building has got some very nice period interiors, with its gigantic doors, stairways, etc. Defintely a lot of personality there. There was a beautiful lounge on the first floor for connecting to the WiFi. The location is ideal for exploring the student district.
The electrical equipment also seems to be from a century past, with bad switches, non working plugs and sparkles when you plug in... Parking isn't easy, unless you are willing to park across the river. Also, if you ever need warm water, do make an appointment because this has got to be the world's slowest warm tap I've ever encountered. I first thought there was no warm water, so shaved cold. Then, wanting a shower, I persisted and was finally rewarded after a full five minutes wait with some kinda tepid water... and I do mean minutes.

We liked that it was close to the city center. The historical building has a fantastic ambient and the room was fine. Small but clean with shower and wc.
We only stayed for one night so we were pretty satisfied, because it was indeed value for money. We definitely recommend the hotel.

This hotel is a beautiful heritage site located right by the river. the staff is very friendly and the Indian restaurant onsite is absolutely amazing. the hotel provides easy parking as well, which is an additional plus. the hotel has an elegant old world ambiance that makes you feel transported to another era.
The hotel could use a bit of maintenance in some areas, such as the plumbing. it can be a little noisy since the hotel is located on a busy road.

Good location, train station and city buses very near.
Very old and run-down place. Very cold room with an old broken heater that did not work. I could not sleep because of the icy temperature in the room and the noise from the street. Filthy place, especially the very old, nearly antique shower. Brown couloured tapwater. I did not want to have breakfast in this place. So I went to one of the many coffeeshops nearby.

I wouldn't recommend it to anybody, the place is dark, dirty, cold, with windows that don't close and bathroom door that doesn't open. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and shower didn't work. No working internet, although they claim you do have free wi-fi.
